How to tell the difference between a Integra B18C GSR and Type-R engine

If you’re buying a JDM engine then both the GSR and Type-R engines are stamped “B18C” on the block.

In North America the GSR is stamped “B18C1″ and the Type-R is stamped “B18C5″

So this tip is for JDM engines.

There are two main things you can look at:
1. The valve cover: The Type-R engine has a RED valve cover.
2. The intake manifold: The GSR engine has an intake manifold which curves downwards. Where as the Type-R has one which curves upwards. To see what I mean check out the two pictures below.
